The Bermuda Triangle of Christmas Movies
Between the golden age of Christmas cinema and its commercial revival, there is a place that time forgot. An era where wisecracking Plantagenet kings rubbed shoulders with talking Christmas trees, and singing and dancing Victorian misers had to dodge yuletide Martian invaders! In the 1960s and '70s, the festive movie became an obscure and neglected category of film, far from the blockbusters we know today...and yet this period offered some of the most unusual and experimental features in the genre's history. Join author Tom Christie for a journey into the mysterious mists of Christmas past as he unveils the often surreal history of a unique era of holiday season cinema - the likes of which will never be seen again!
Tom Christie is the author of eighteen books, on subjects including modern cinema, retro computing and popular culture. He holds a PhD in Scottish Literature from the University of Stirling, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2018. In addition to his writing, he co-hosts the "Traditionally Speaking" podcast with American author Joe Moore which explores the differences in Christmas traditions between Scotland and the USA.
