We understand it can be a little confusing knowing which items can or cannot be recycled, what you should do with them or which bin to use. To help make things easier, we’ve put together an A-Z guide for residents that provides guidance on what to do when disposing of items.​

Recycling if you live in a flat or tenement

Bring Sites have been provided to make it easier for residents living in flats and tenements in
Dundee to recycle. Please be considerate of others when using these facilities.

Centres. However, they are sited in locations throughout Dundee.

Vape Paraphernalia Electrical

For safety reasons do not place batteries in any your bins 

Devices containing batteries are highly reactive and flammable.

Vapes, e-liquids, pods and re-fills can now be recycled at most major supermarkets and other retailers who offer a take-back scheme. Find your nearest vape disposal outlet: www.recycleyourelectricals.org.uk

  • Please carefully bag, tie up and dispose of all noxious weeds securely in strong bags and place in your grey general waste bin for incineration at Dundee's Energy from Waste Plant.
  • Examples include Japanese Knotweed, Giant Hogweed, Himalayan Balsam, Ragwort, Hemlock etc
  • Please ensure appropriate safety precautions are in place whilst removing noxious weeds. For Japanese Knotweed or Giant Hogweed, it is strongly recommended commissioning the services of a licenced, trained professional regarding specialist removal and disposal.

Do not dispose of noxious weeds:

  • in brown garden waste bins or at Household Waste Recycling Centres.
Wood DIY & Home
  • Can be recycled at Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres.
  • Please ensure wood/timber is free from other materials e.g. fabrics, plastic coatings etc. 
  • Creosote treated timber is NOT accepted, and can be disposed of in thenn-recyclable waste skips.
  • Pallet wood can be locally upcycled into new products.
Wrappers (cellophane e.g. gifts, flowers, bouquets, hampers) Storage & Packaging
  • Not currently recycled.
  • Do not place in Burgundy recycling bins.
  • Place in Grey non-recyclable waste bin.
