A-Z Recycling Guide

We understand it can be a little confusing knowing which items can or cannot be recycled, what you should do with them or which bin to use. To help make things easier, we’ve put together an A-Z guide for residents that provides guidance on what to do when disposing of items.

Recycling if you live in a flat or tenement

Bring Sites have been provided to make it easier for residents living in flats and tenements in Dundee to recycle. Please be considerate of others when using these facilities.

Recycling points are smaller in scale and have a more limited number of bins than Recycling Centres. However, they are sited in locations throughout Dundee.

What can and cannot go in your bins

Grey (General Waste) Blue (Paper & Cardboard) Burgundy (Metals, plastics, cartons) Green Caddies (Food Waste) Brown (Garden Waste)

NO LARGE/BULKY ITEMS - please DO NOT place large/bulky items for disposal/recycling into your bins. These bins should only be used for everyday household items. If you have larger bulky items, please take these to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre or use our Bulky Uplift Service.

Light Bulbs (Old filament style - incandescent)	Electrical	Not currently recycled. Do not place in Glass recycling bins. Place in Grey non-recyclable waste bin.
Mobiles Phones	Electrical	Donate to local charity shop. When you buy a new mobile phone in a shop, ask how you can recycle your old one. Most provide a postal recycling service you can use. Can be recycled at Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres. Do not place in Grey non-recyclable waste bin.
Printer Ink & Toner	Electrical	Not currently recycled. Do not place in Burgundy recycling bins. Send your cartidges freepost to organisations for recycling
Smoke Alarms	Electrical	These are classed as electrical waste Recycle at Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres. Do not place in Grey non-recyclable waste bin. Do not place in recycling bins.
TVs & Monitors	Electrical	Donate for reuse at Baldovie Reuse Hub. Can be recycled at both Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres. Use Bulky Uplift Service (chargeable).
Vape Paraphernalia	Electrical	⚠️For safety reasons DO NOT place batteries in your Grey non-recyclable waste bin. Devices containing batteries are highly reactive and flammable. Vapes, e-liquids, pods and re-fills can now be recycled at most major supermarkets and other retailers who offer a take-back scheme. Find your nearest vape disposal outlet: www.recycleyourelectricals.org.uk Vape outer packaging (cardboard) Flatten. Place in Blue Paper & Cardboard bins for recycling. Take to your nearest paper recycling point Can be recycled at Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres. Vape Recycling Barrels Residents can also dispose of used/discarded vapes in speciliased vape recycling barrels located at both Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres.
VCR Players	Electrical	Can be recycled at both Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres.
Washing Machines & Dryers	Electrical	If in good condition, donate for reuse at Baldovie Reuse Hub. Can be recycled at both Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres. Use Bulky Uplift Service (chargeable).
