Two more Take Pride school litter picks

Two more litter picks have taken place as part of the Take Pride in Your City’s High School Litter Initiative.
The collaborative project, between the Council’s Neighbourhood Services and Children & Families Service, saw staff and pupils at St John’s RC High School and Baldragon Academy.
The scheme was piloted last year by providing litter picking equipment and reviewing bin provision.
The Council’s Environment team continue to support the school community to lead their own events and activities focused on litter and recycling building on the work already being done by schools.
Climate, Net Zero & Environment Convener Cllr Lynne Short said: “The Take Pride campaign brings together a range of collaborative projects, with partners working closely to make a real difference across the city.
“This Litter Initiative has been introduced to build on this positive approach, encouraging behaviours that help keep Dundee’s streets and public spaces tidy.”
Children & Families Convener Cllr Stewart Hunter said: “Through litter prevention education, we can reach young people about the issues littering brings at primary school and continue that as children reach young adulthood.
“The scheme has been rolled out successfully in the city’s secondary schools and has been popular with equipment and advice for staff and pupils who have been eager to get involved.”
Disposing of items in any public open space is classed as littering and is a criminal offence. Offenders can be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £80 or potentially prosecuted, risking a fine of up to £2,500.
