First Dundee Child Friendly Fairness And poverty Report Launched

The first child-friendly Dundee Fairness and Local Child Poverty Report has been launched.
Based on Dundee’s Fairness and Local Child Poverty Action Plan 2025/26, the 16-page young person's edition uses bright colours, illustrations and easy-to-understand language to make it more engaging.
The report has been designed for Primary 7 pupils and above and explains how Dundee is working together to make life fairer for children, young people and families.
Published during Challenge Poverty Week, which runs from 5 to 11 October, the young person’s report will help children and young people understand the realities of poverty, the action being taken to tackle it, and the next steps to reduce inequalities across the city.
A group of City-Wide Pupil Voice pupils helped shape the report, providing valuable feedback on the language and design to ensure it would be easy for younger audiences to understand.
Children and Families Convener Councillor Stewart Hunter said: "This is one of the first child-friendly Fairness and Child Poverty Action Plans produced in Scotland, and I’m delighted we are leading the way here in Dundee.
"We want our children and young people to understand what poverty is, the effect it can have, and what we as a council and our partners are doing to support families.
"We also want young people to know that support is available, where they can access it, and understand that poverty can affect anyone.
"This report has been created to encourage open conversations about poverty and help break down the stigma that can surround it.
"I particularly want to thank our young people for their valuable input into this report."
Council spokesperson for Fairness and Wellbeing Councillor Siobhan Tolland said: "In Dundee, we are all working together to make the city a fairer place, and a key part of that is reducing the number of children and families living in poverty.
"We are launching this young person’s report during Challenge Poverty Week to include children and young people in the conversation about fairness, so that as they grow, they understand the impact of poverty and have a voice in creating a fairer Dundee."
