Planning Enforcement

If you consider that a development has been carried out without the necessary permission and/or the failure of applicants to abide by the conditions attached to planning decisions you must contact us by email or in writing.  The name of the complainant will be kept confidential and we will investigate the development and seek to resolve any breaches of planning control that may have occurred.

Do I Need Planning Permission?

What Needs Planning Permission

New buildings, such as houses, shops or factories, require planning permission and so do many changes of use of buildings and land. Extensions to buildings may also need planning permission, depending on such matters as their size.

If your property is a Listed Building or lies within a Conservation Area there are much stricter rules what can be done without obtaining permission.

Planning Appeals

Where you have made an application for planning permission and want to challenge the decision (or where no decision has been made within the set timescale), you will have the right to appeal. The right to seek an appeal/review lasts for 3 months from the date of the Decision Notice or 3 months from the date of expiry of the period allowed for determining the application. The way in which your application has been determined will influence who undertakes the appeal or review. Please check the information contained within your Decision Notice as this will tell you how to proceed.

Conservation Areas in Dundee

Dundee City Council decides which parts of the City are worthy of protection for their special character as Conservation Areas, to designate such areas and ensure their future management. Conservation Areas are areas of special architectural and/or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance.
