Lochee Regeneration Area

The Lochee Physical Regeneration Framework (8.4MB PDF) was approved in 2008 as the foundation to secure commitments and resources to enable the long-term regeneration of Lochee. The framework identified that the poor quality of the physical environment and negative perceptions of Lochee, particularly in the District Centre and adjacent areas was the result of poor quality housing stock, a high number of vacant retail units, a lack of modern retail opportunities, as well as issues of accessibility and transportation connections etc.

In 2009/10 the Scottish Government's Town Centre Regeneration Fund invested £2.1M in the infrastructure and buildings of the District Centre and the Dundee Partnership with the Scottish Government's Vacant and Derelict Land Fund enabled the clearance of the Weaver's Village and the purchase of the near vacant Highgate shopping centre.

In 2012 the Council approved the masterplan for the redevelopment of the Highgate Area.  The first phase of works was completed in the summer of 2014 with the opening of the new Bank Street linking the bypass to the High Street, new car parking and event space, new community garden, public transport hub and new development sites. The transport hub was supported by the European Regional Development Fund.

The Council continues to invest to improve the residential neighbourhoods of Whorterbank and Kirk St with a major programme of refurbishment to the existing buildings and identifying areas for improvement to their public realm amenities.
