Open Market Shared Equity Scheme

The Scottish Government is committed to helping people meet their aspirations to become home owners and has recently announced an expansion of its scheme to help first-time buyers, The Open Market Shared Equity Pilot (OMSEP). The scheme is being rolled out across Scotland with an increased budget of £60 million for 2009-2010. It is expected to help around 1,500 households this year.

The scheme is part of the Scottish Government's Low-cost Initiative for First Time Buyers (LIFT), to help people on low to moderate incomes buy an affordable home.

Housing Options in Dundee - Waiting times

This will depend on the areas of the city and the types of property you have chosen.

Due to high demand and the lack of available housing in certain areas this might affect the length of time you may have to wait for housing in your preferred area.

This is particularly the case in areas where a large number of Council houses have been sold and more people want council housing than there are houses available.

This would apply to, but is not limited to areas such as, Broughty Ferry, Barnhill, Forthill, Taybank, Craigiebank, Blackness and Elgin Granton.

Housing Options in Dundee - Self Build

Before you start on a self build project you should source as much information and advice that you can:

Housing Options in Dundee - Are you intentionally homeless?

You may be assessed as intentionally homeless if you were responsible in some way for becoming homeless through your own actions.

This could include antisocial behaviour, unwilling to pay your rent or not acting on advice that would have prevented you becoming homeless. We also take into account whether it would have been reasonable to expect, or to have expected for you to have stayed in your accommodation.

Before making an intentionally homeless decision, the Council will take into account all factors in the case and make a judgement on that basis.

Housing Options in Dundee - Your rights

Dundee City Council has legal duties to help people who are homeless or who are threatened with homelessness within two months. Our duties are laid down in law by the Housing (Scotland) Act 1987 as amended.

We must also take account of the Scottish Executive’s ‘Code of Guidance on Homelessness’, published in June 2004. This code of guidance provides information on how local authorities should interpret the homeless legislation.

If you are homeless or about to become homeless you have the right:
