Renting from the Council

Choosing Dundee City Council as your landlord has many benefits, including:

  • affordable rents
  • no deposit required
  • secure tenancies
  • full repairs service
  • district housing office services
  • low cost home contents insurance

We own around 12,500 homes throughout the city. These are mainly on estates and are a mixture of flats, multi storey flats, maisonettes and cottages. As in most cities, some areas are more popular than others and waiting times can be very long.

Renting in the Private Sector

In Dundee more than 8000 households rent their homes from a private landlord or agent. Private renting is probably your best option if you are looking for somewhere to stay quickly or looking for somewhere that is furnished or if you're looking for short-term accommodation.

Private rented accommodation is usually:

Homeless

If you are homeless or are likely to become homeless within the next two months you should get advice straight away.

Renting from a Housing Association

Housing associations, sometimes called registered social landlords (RSLs), are non-profit making friendly societies. They are run by professional staff and managed by a board of management made up of volunteers. These boards have overall responsibility for the work of the organisation. Board members may include residents, representatives from local authorities and community groups, business people and politicians.
