Dundee City Council received funding from the Scottish Government in 2014 to setup an ECO Stars Scheme for taxis and private hire vehicles. The scheme was launched in Dundee on 11 March 2015 with the four inaugural members receiving their certificates at this event.

Dundee City Council operates the most diverse fleet of all ECO Stars members in Dundee – in total, there are more than 450 vehicles including heavy goods, light goods, small vans and passenger carrying vehicles.
The official launch of the ECO Stars scheme in Dundee took place on 13 December 2013 where seven of the inaugural 12 ECO Stars Dundee members received their certificates. Since then, the membership number has grown with over 230 members now signed up to the ECO Stars Dundee scheme, with over 8790 vehicles being registered.

The ECO Stars scheme is voluntary and free to join and help is available for prospective members while going through the application process.
