Remembrance Events

Remembrance, poppy, crest
DETAILS of this year’s ceremonies in Dundee to remember the fallen from all wars and conflicts have been revealed by civic chiefs.
On Remembrance Sunday (November 8) at 10.30am there will be a parade following a route from The High School of Dundee down Reform Street, High Street and Nethergate.
Led by Dundee City Pipe Band, other participants will include military, combined ex-services associations, veterans and Cadet Forces. Lord Provost Bill Campbell will take the Salute in Reform Street along with military representatives.
He said: “As the combatants from the Second World War become fewer and frailer it is important that we continue to remember the sacrifice they and their fallen comrades made, while being mindful of those who have lost their lives in previous and subsequent conflicts.
“But even as we are commemorating the loss of life down the years, there are still conflicts raging on almost every continent, which brings an immediacy and poignancy to all our remembrance activities.”
Following the parade there will be a wreath laying service at the Garden of Remembrance, St Mary’s Church where the Lord Provost, ex services associations, MP/MSPs, council officers, elected members, Dundee secondary schools and other invited guests will place floral tributes. A service will take place in St Mary’s Church at 11.30am.
Further Commemoration Services will be held at 12.15pm at the City Cenotaph, Dundee Law; the Submariners’ Memorial, Dundee Docks at 2.30pm and at Frigate Unicorn at 3pm.
The Lord Provost will lay a wreath at all three ceremonies on behalf of the Citizens of Dundee.
On Armistice Day, Wednesday November 11 at 11am, there will be a short service and two-minute silence in City Square open to anyone who wishes to attend.
