Strathmartine Community Clean-Up

Local residents, community organisations, Council employees and partners came together this week in the Strathmartine area for a Take Pride in Your City Community Clean-Up.
The three-day initiative took place between Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th as part of the city’s ongoing campaign to make a positive difference to neighbourhoods, parks and open spaces.
Council employees from Environment, Community Justice, Housing and Communities worked together with local residents, community organisations and representatives from Scottish Fire & Rescue Service and Police Scotland.
Additional work carried out included the clearing of open and communal areas, removal of litter and debris, selected strimming near walkways and additional sweeping of streets and paths.
Residents also made use of skips provided in the area to dispose of unwanted household items, with advice and support on hand from staff throughout the event.
Climate, Net Zero & Environment Convener and Depute for Neighbourhood, Housing and Communities Cllr Lynne Short said: “It has been great to see local residents, community groups, Council services and partner organisations working together for this Community Clean-Up.
“As the nights draw in, this has served as a good opportunity to engage with residents, share advice and information, and improve the local environment.”
Depute Convener for Climate, Net Zero & Environment Cllr Lee Mills added: “There’s been a lot of positive action across the three days, including community litter picking, residents using the skips provided, recycling advice being shared and community safety information being made available.
“The Take Pride in Your City campaign highlights the difference that positive action can make to our neighbourhoods and communities.”
Area Commander Bryan Todd is SFRS Local Senior Officer for Dundee, Angus, Perth and Kinross. He said: "Working alongside our partners and local residents is an important part of helping to build safer and more resilient communities.
"When people take pride in where they live, it can bring them together and encourage them to look out for one another.
"We're proud to support initiatives that strengthen community spirit and help make a positive difference."
The Strathmartine event was the sixteenth Community Clean-Up since the initiative was launched in 2022, with events having taken place across the city.
The programme will continue next week with a further Community Clean-Up taking place in the Coldside area on 3rd and 4th November.
Information about future Community Clean-Ups is communicated directly to local residents ahead of them taking place.
