Industrial Action Update

Schools in Dundee may be affected by proposed industrial action on Wednesday 18th and Tuesday 24th March 2026
This industrial action involves members of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) union and is part of a national dispute relating to Reduction in Class Contact Time (RCCT).
Negotiations are continuing at a national level, but it is important the council prepares in case the proposed industrial action does go ahead.
Due to the numbers of union members potentially involved in strike action, an assessment is required to determine what Dundee City Council nurseries and schools (including nursery classes) we can open safely during strike days. That assessment is currently under way.
There is also a proposed planned period of Action Short of Strike Action commencing from Monday, 16th March which may affect any additional activity/events beyond the school day. This form of industrial action alone will not result school and nursery closures.
We are reviewing the implications of this at school level and further information will follow in due course.
The situation in each school will be different. We appreciate the uncertainty this will cause, and schools will keep parent/carers updated directly as soon as possible.
Updates will also be provided via the Council website and social media channels.
