Apprenticeship Trophy

AN ANNUAL award given to Dundee City Council’s Construction Services Apprentice of the Year has been picked up this year by a glazier.
Dylan Carling, in his second year as a glazier was presented with the Bill McKay Trophy last week.
Second year slater, Lee Duncan was the 2025 runner-up in the competition which recognises the apprentice who has achieved the best results at college and work during their apprenticeship.
The trophy itself was donated in memory of the late Bill McKay, deputy director of Public Works (now part of the council’s neighbourhood services) from 1984 to 1993.
Kevin Cordell convener of Dundee City Council’s neighbourhood, housing and communities committee who attended the prize-giving said: “Congratulations to Dylan for being this year’s top apprentice and to Lee for a well-deserved second place.
“It takes a considerable amount of hard work and dedication for a second-year apprentice to get this level of recognition from their peers and time-served senior trades people, both on the tools and at their college placement.
“While we are here to celebrate Dylan and Lee’s achievements, they are only two of many hard-working apprentices in construction services learning a trade for themselves and supporting the people of the city to get and keep their homes and buildings at the highest possible standard.”
Dylan picked up the winners' plaque and a tool voucher for £125, while Lee took home the runner up plaque and a tool voucher for £75.
Cllr Cordell added: “The valuable skills and opportunities that our apprentices gain through their roles with construction services play a major role in the council.
“The council’s apprenticeship schemes, as a whole, contribute to helping our young people reach their full potential.”
