Cycle Storage at Multi-Storey Block

Residents at a multi-storey block in Dundee will have the chance to get on their bikes as a new storage facility is unveiled near their homes.

In a trial project, a secure cycle storage unit has been constructed beside Lansdowne Court.

The initiative is part of Dundee City Council’s Sustainable Transport Delivery Plan, which is designed to encourage and enable more city residents to take up active travel choices.

Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure convener Councillor Steven Rome visited the unit to see how it would help local people.

He said: “The council’s active travel team has worked closely with residents of Lansdowne Court to gauge the level of demand there would be for a facility like this.

“I am pleased that this pilot is going ahead, and we will monitor the use of the unit to see if this project can be expanded to other areas across the city.

“We are keen that people can have the opportunity to cycle and be able to store their bike securely if they don’t have room in their own home or be able to get their bike up stairs.

“There has been a roll-out of secure residential cycle storage units across the city, and I see this pilot as a way of complementing that.”

Residents of Lansdowne Court were key in driving the project forward and helped to choose the colours  of the unit, which match those of the building’s cladding and balconies.

The store was supplied and installed by Broxap, and is their “Wardale Anti-Vandal Compound” featuring a number of security measures such as a mechanical code lock. It provides space for 25 standard cycles plus 2 adapted cycles (e.g. trikes).

Costs have been entirely funded from the Cycling Scotland Cycle Friendly Fund.
