Activities are happening across Dundee in support of Challenge Poverty Week 2024.

This Scotland-wide campaign aims to highlight that too many people are living in poverty, and to showcase the positive action being taken to combat this.

Dundee City Council is supporting the week (7th-13th October) and information sessions and events are being hosted by the Council and its partners. The Council is also highlighting local organisations and actions which help alleviate the negative effects of living with limited resources.

Events this week include an energy saving advice event in the Overgate hosted by Home Energy Scotland, a fairness event hosted by Boomerang at their Kemback Street Community Centre with cosy café, information stalls and lunch clubs, and different panel meetings and webinars with a focus on challenging poverty.

You can follow everything that is happening on our social media channels or look at our events calendar.

Council spokesperson for Fairness and Wellbeing, Councillor Siobhan Tolland, said: “While I’m pleased that the Council is supporting Challenge Poverty Week again this year and is fully committed to support those in need, the sad reality is that challenging poverty is something we need to do all year round and not just for one week of the year.

“We must strive every day to make the changes we need to remove poverty from our society and end the stigma and isolation it causes.

“The Council and its partners are here to help. Whether it be with food, energy, benefits or general advice, please get in touch."

More information about how the Council supports Challenge Poverty Week and a calendar of events can be found on our website.
