The new £5.17 million-pound extension to Harris Academy has been completed.

This project was funded by Perth and Kinross Council in response to the consultation to review the Harris Academy catchment area which proposed Invergowrie Primary School be removed as an associated primary school.

The extension enables children from Perth and Kinross residing within the catchment area of the associated primary to continue to attend Harris Academy as an alternative to travelling to their dual catchment school in Perth.

Six classrooms with a staff base and office comprise the new extension, alongside additional internal social space created for pupils.

The subjects that will primarily be taught in the new classrooms are Modern languages, Music and PE.

Additional works were also undertaken at the same time to redevelop an area in the science department to create an additional lab and to enclose a teaching area in Home Economics.

Children, Families and Communities Convener Stewart Hunter said: “It’s great to see the extension to Harris Academy open.

“A lot of good partnership work with Perth and Kinross Council has gone into make this a reality and I’m delighted to see pupils using this new space.

“Whilst building this extension we have been able to carry out several improvements to the school which is great to see. In addition, over the summer we will also be carrying out more improvements works to the home economics department.”

Perth and Kinross Council Convener of Families and Learning, Councillor John Rebbeck said: “We’re pleased to have worked with our colleagues in Dundee City Council to maintain the important catchment link to Harris Academy for our pupils who attend Invergowrie PS through the construction of this new extension. This pragmatic solution has been able to be progressed through close partnership working which I have welcomed.”
