The most obvious means of finding somebody to share a flat with is through word of mouth. You may have a friend, a family member, or a friend of a friend that is in a similar position to you and looking for a flatmate.
BuddyUp (Flatshare Dundee) is an initiative managed through the Dundee Homefinder Service for young adults under the age of 35 who are only entitled to the Shared Accommodation Rate of Local Housing Allowance. Changes to welfare reform mean that some of our customers are no longer entitled to the Local Housing Allowance for a one bedroom property which has resulted in flat sharing as being a very viable option.
The Shared Accommodation Rate applies if you are:
- Under 35
- Single
- On a low income
- Have no dependents residing with you on a permanent basis
To use the services of BuddyUp (Flatshare Dundee) you will have to apply through Dundee Homefinder. You will be interviewed and assessed for the scheme.
If you feel this service would suit your housing needs then please email us homefinder@dundeecity.gov.uk or give us a call on 01382 433003.
