Business Events

The Dundee City Region Convention Bureau collaborates with the city's leading research institutes through the Pathfinders Programme to host national and international conferences. The team offers tailored bid and planning guidance and support to host committees, working closely with venue and accommodation partners to maximise economic and social benefits. Additionally, through various activities leading up to the conference, the team actively promotes the destination and encourages delegates and their families to stay longer and explore the city and its surroundings.

The Pathfinders Programme highlights the importance of conferences for advancing research and increasing the visibility of institutions and industries. These conferences serve as powerful platforms to address issues like climate change, social inequality, and food poverty while advocating for affected communities. Our region, with its strong research centres and innovative companies, is well-equipped to use these events to foster collaboration and tackle shared challenges.

Events in Dundee

The Events Team work towards making Dundee a vibrant and exciting place to live, work and study by supporting a range of events across the City.

The Events Team are responsible for delivering Dundee City Council events including Radio 1's Big Weekend, Christmas in City Square, the Dundee Hooley, and the Dundee Food Festival. We also work closely with external event organisers to support and advise them to deliver events in Dundee's parks and public spaces like music events, races and community gala days.

Our focus as a city for events and festivals are those events which:

have economic benefits to the city by attracting visitors, increasing overnight stays or having employment benefits
promote the city, enhance Dundee’s visibility and raise our profile as a vibrant, contemporary international city
are distinctive to Dundee by using the landscape, history, heritage or people of Dundee to make them unique
are available to, and involve, members of the public in Dundee, or which inspire and involve local communities

Events Strategy 2024-29

The Events Strategy 2024-29 supports the development and delivery of a calendar of events that bring people together to share experiences, develop kinship and community, and celebrate. This Strategy seeks to support events activity in Dundee. It sets out the priority objectives for Dundee City Council and shows how we will continue to generate activity and work in partnership with others to ensure that Dundee is alive with activity across genres, scales, and seasons while making the most of our authentic assets.

The campaign promotes the city via a PR led campaign and runs the city’s branded portal www.dundee.com

Leisure Tourism

The council has many touch points with leisure visitors to the city and are focussed on growing the numbers of visitors coming to Dundee, especially overnight stays. We are one of the stakeholders responsible for delivering on the City's Tourism Strategy. We commission and collect tourism data to allow us to measure the outputs of the sector in terms of employment and economic impact.

We facilitate the Dundee Tourism Partnership (DTP) as well as regular forums and events bringing the tourism and hospitality sectors together.

We are also involved in the Tay Cities Regional Tourism Strategy, focusing on the 3 connector themes: Culture & Creative; Food & Drink and Outdoor Adventure.
