A-Z Recycling Guide

We understand it can be a little confusing knowing which items can or cannot be recycled, what you should do with them or which bin to use. To help make things easier, we’ve put together an A-Z guide for residents that provides guidance on what to do when disposing of items.​

Recycling if you live in a flat or tenement

Bring Sites have been provided to make it easier for residents living in flats and tenements in Dundee to recycle. Please be considerate of others when using these facilities.

Recycling points are smaller in scale and have a more limited number of bins than Recycling Centres. However, they are sited in locations throughout Dundee.

Medicine Bottle (Glass) Health & Beauty
  • Should be disposed of in Grey general waste bin (due to potentially harmful residues which could enter the aquatic environment if rinsed).
Medicine(unused) Health & Beauty
  • Should be returned to a pharmacy to be disposed of safely.
Medicines (Boxes with Blister packs) Health & Beauty
  • Cardboard box - place in blue paper recycling bin.
  • Paper leaflet/instructions  - place in blue paper recycling bin.
  • Plastic blister pack - ensure that blister packs are empty.  Any medications still enclosed in the blister packs should be returned to a pharmacy to be disposed of safely.
  • Blister pack recycling - Check with your local pharmacy or can be recycled via Superdrug collection scheme.  Please note that this scheme is only available at Superdrug stores with in-store pharmacies (Wellgate and Overgate, Dundee).

  • Not currently recycled.
  • Place in Grey general waste bin
Metal (Scrap) DIY & Home
Milk Containers (Plastic) Food & Drink
Mirrors Furnishings
  • Donate to local charity shop if mirrors are in good condition.
  • Not currently recycled. 
  • Do not place in Glass recycling bins.
  • If broken glass place in Grey general waste bin or dispose of at Riverside or Baldovie recycling centres
