Responding to the publication Dundee City Council spokesperson on alcohol and drugs Councillor Nadia El-Nakla said:

“I would like to thank everyone in our city who is working to reduce the number of deaths and the harm caused by drugs.

“While we are making progress on many fronts, we cannot show any complacency. To be quite frank, lives depend on the efforts that are being made every day.

“Our shared ambition is to make Dundee a City of Recovery, where we can start to move on from decades of suffering and look forward to a brighter future.

“Agencies and organisations are working together to try and reverse the harm caused over the course of decades, there is no easy way to solve a problem that spans generations.

“I am pleased to see how we are taking a strong gendered approach to services and are also listening to people with experience of the damage that drugs can cause to improve the delivery of services.

“The council, and its partners, are determined that the city can be a better place for everyone, so that people can avoid the dangers of drugs and take advantage of positive opportunities.

“This is not easy work and workers delivering services on the frontline deserve all of our support.

“I think that the people of Dundee are also playing an important part in this effort by displaying kindness and compassion.

“Our city is travelling in the right direction, but we must keep up the momentum.”
