As part of Carers Rights Day, the Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership are encouraging carers to know their rights and have their voices heard.

Carer’s Right Day is on Thursday 21 November and to mark the occasion the Dundee Carers Partnership will launch the Dundee Carer Involvement Framework, setting out how carers in Dundee will be supported to have their voices heard and influence decision making in the future.

In addition, the Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership is urging carers to share their views on ‘A Caring Dundee 2’, the local carers strategy which is currently under review.

The next strategy will shape the next steps in supporting Dundee’s 20,000 unpaid carers who support one or more people including partners, family members and friends.

Chair of the Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership Integration Joint Board Councillor Ken Lynn said: “We want carers to know their rights and empower them to know what they are entitled to.

“Carers should feel confident to ask for what they need as well as challenging situations where their rights aren’t being met – whether that be in the workplace, education, in access health or social care, or when interacting with professionals or at home.

“I have regular updates about the progress of ‘A Caring Dundee 2’ which is the local Carers Strategy 2021-2024, and I commend the work with partners to ensure it supports carers of all ages.

The Dundee Carers Partnership includes agencies working with adults and children to ensure carers recognise their vital role and help them get access to a wide range of support to help them in this role.

This year’s National Carers Rights Day theme is ‘recognising your rights’.
