Council Plan Mid Year Progress Report
18/11/24An update on how the City Council is taking forward priorities for the people of Dundee will be considered by councillors on Monday November 18.
The City Governance Committee is to look in detail at the mid-year progress report of the Council Plan 2022-27, which contains updated data which was not included in the annual update.
Councillors will hear that there have been advances in a number of areas.
As part of efforts to tackle child poverty by improving attainment, it is reported that there has been increase in the average total tariff score for pupils from the most deprived areas of the city.
More young people aged 16-19 from those areas are now participating in positive destinations, reflecting work that has been undertaken to help them into better futures.
Provisional figures show that the city’s recycling rate has increased to 36.6%.
Meanwhile, efforts to encourage people to take part in participatory budgeting has seen the percentage of the council budget allocated by these methods surpass targets.
The report also outlines how 77% of all priority themes in the plan have improved since its launch.
These themes are:
- Reduce Child Poverty and Inequalities
- Deliver Inclusive Economic Growth
- Tackle Climate Change and achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2045
- Build Resilient and Empowered Communities
- Design a Modern Council
City council leader Cllr Mark Flynn said: “The update report gives us a good indication of how efforts to improve people’s lives are making an impact.
“I am under no illusion about the scale of some of the challenges we face as a city. However, I am heartened by the dedication and commitment of those who work for the council and our partners.
“We are trying to make the city a better place for everyone, and this report is an important measure of how we are making progress, while also indicating where we need to do more.”
The City Governance meeting on Monday November 18 will also consider an annual report on the wider Dundee Partnership’s City Plan for 2022-32.
The shows indicators showing the most improvement which include the number of people employed by accredited Living Wage Employers in Dundee, the percentage point gap in literacy in P1-7 between pupils living in SIMD 1 areas and living in SIMD 5 areas, and the number of Business Gateway Start-Ups per 10,000 population.
