The minute of meeting of this Committee of 15th May, 2000 was held as read.

I DUNDEE INTERNATIONAL SPORTS COMPLEX (DISC) - SCOTTISH TOURIST BOARD AWARDS

 

The Committee noted that DISC had achieved the award of Four Star Activity Centre under the 2000/01 Scottish Tourist Board Visitor Attraction Grading Scheme which compared to the Three Star achievement in 1999/2000.

 

II OLYMPIA AND LOCHEE - SWIMMING AND LEISURE CENTRES

 

(a) Supply and Fitting of Pool Covers

 

The Director of Leisure and Parks reported that a quotation had been received from Pool Cover Systems UK, Northumberland, specialist supplier, for the supply and fitting including delivery of strip systems covers to Lochee pool at a cost of 1,298 and the same as above for Olympia 'kiddies' pool for 1,150.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offers.

 

(b) Replacement Fitness Equipment

 

On a reference to Article III of the minute of meting of this Committee of 14th December 1999 the Director of Leisure and Parks submitted Report No 392-2000 giving details of an offer from Powersport International, Bridgend, a specialist supplier, to supply and instal replacement fitness equipment as undernoted:

 

(i) Olympia Swimming and Leisure Centre

 

Supply and Installation of Combination of Resistant and Cardio-Vascular Fitness Equipment - 44,706.

 

(ii) Lochee Swimming and Leisure Centre

 

Supply and installation combination of resistant and cardio-vascular fitness equipment, free weights and satellite system - 50,274.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer totalling 94,980 from Powersport International Limited.

 

III DUNDEE PLAY AREA REPORT 2000

 

On a reference to Article IX of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 20th March, 2000 the Director of Leisure and Parks submitted Report No 317-2000 reporting on the consultations with regard to the Play Area Report and requesting the Committee's approval for the proposed future actions with regard to the implementation of the report.

 

The Convener, seconded by Councillor Letford, moved approval of the report.

 

As an amendment, Councillor FitzPatrick, seconded by Councillor Petrie, moved that Derwent Avenue play area and Lewis Terrace play area be added to Appendix I and Findale Street and Fintryside play areas be added to paragraph 6.7.

 

On a division there voted for the motion, the Convener, Lord Provost Wright and Councillors de Gernier, Letford, Ward, Shimi, Presswood, Regan, Kemp, Sturrock, Glen, Rolfe, Mackie, Wallace and Scott (15); and for the amendment - Councillors Richard Beattie, Dawson, Sawers, FitzPatrick, Petrie, Guild, Corrigan, David Beattie, Fordyce, Bowes and Borthwick (11) - whereupon the motion was declared carried.

 

IV LEISURE AND PARKS DEPARTMENT SERVICE PLAN - REPORT ON PERFORMANCE 1999/2000

 

On a reference to Article I of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 15th November, 1999 the Director of Leisure and Parks submitted Report No 405-2000 informing the Committee of the performance of the Department during the financial year in relation to the key performance measures outlined in the Service Plan 1999/2000 and providing indication of initiatives planned to improve performance.

 

The Committee noted the contents of the report and remitted to the Director of Leisure and Parks to implement any actions and strategies necessary to enhance the performance of the measures.

 

V DUNDEE ICE ARENA - CHANGE OF SUB-CONTRACTORS

 

The Committee noted that HBG Construction Limited, the main contractor had requested changes to their sub-contractors as undernoted:

 

Cairn Contracts (Aberdeen) Limited in place of the listed domestic sub-contractor for suspended ceilings.

 

McGregor Flooring, Hamilton in place of the listed domestic sub-contractor for floor coverings.

 

Thaw & Young, Kirkcaldy in place of the listed domestic sub-contractor for glazing.

 

VI TENDERS RECEIVED

 

(a) Camperdown Park - Infrastructure 2000

 

There was submitted Report No. 408-2000.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Philectric Ltd amounting to 15,239.90 to which required to be added an allowance of 3,750 for professional services making a total expenditure of 18,989.90.

 

(b) Dundee Ice Arena - Leisure Management System

 

The Committee agreed to accept the specialist offer from Delta Computer Services, East Sussex amounting to 29,995.

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the public and press be excluded from the meeting during discussion of the undernoted item of business on the grounds that it involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraphs 6 and 9 of Part I of Schedule 7(A) of the Act.

 

VII DUNDEE MODEL BOAT CLUB - LEASE OF BOATHOUSE, STOBSMUIR PARK

 

It was reported that the above Club had applied for lottery funding to carry out improvement works which required that the applicant had a current lease with a minimum of five years to run at the time of the application.

 

The Committee agreed that the Council enter into a formal lease agreement with the Club on the terms and conditions detailed.
