I CIVIC GOVERNMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT - SECTION 90 - DEFECTIVE STAIR LIGHTING
The Director of Environmental and Consumer Protection reported that notices had been served on the owners of the undernoted property requiring works to be carried out.

The Committee authorised the Director to carry out the works should the owners not comply within the time allowed in the notices.
II PROPERTY IMPROVEMENTS
There was submitted Report No 31-2001 by the Director of Environmental and Consumer Protection detailing estimates received in respect of a number of property improvements.
The Committee approved acceptance of:-
(i) an estimate of 5,068.70 from Dundee Contract Services to carry out essential repairs and improvements to the access road to Riverside Civic Amenity Site;
(ii) an estimate of 9,571.88 from J B Corrie and Co Limited, Blairgowrie, for the erection of security fencing at Riverside Civic Amenity Site and adjacent composting area at Riverside;
(iii) an estimate of 1,760 from Forbes and Co, Dundee, for the erection of new and improved signage at the three civic amenity sites operated by the Council at Riverside, Marchbanks and Baldovie; and
(iv) an estimate of 3,666 from Ledbury Welding and Engineers, Ledbury, for the supply and installation of a bunded diesel storage tank at the compost facility at Riverside Landfill Site.
III AIR QUALITY REVIEW AND ASSESSMENT - STAGE 2 REPORT
There was submitted Report No 32-2001 by Director of Environmental and Consumer Protection advising the Committee of the contents of Stage 2 of the Statutory Review and Assessment of Air Quality in Dundee.
The Committee agreed to:-
(i) note the Review and Assessment, agree its principal points and approve its submission to the Scottish Executive;
(ii) approve the completion of a further Review and Assessment of Air Quality in Dundee in 2003.
IV PUBLIC HOLIDAY REFUSE COLLECTION ARRANGEMENTS
There was submitted Report No 38-2001 by Director of Environmental and Consumer Protection recommending alteration in the arrangements for the collection of domestic refuse on public holidays, excluding Christmas and New Year, in the year 2001 and subsequent years.
The Committee agreed that collection of domestic refuse be carried out on all public holidays, excluding Christmas and New Year, in the year 2001 and subsequent years.
V RECYCLING GRANTS
There was submitted Report No 33-2001 by Director of Environmental and Consumer Protection advising the Committee of Dundee City Council's share of the 3,000,000 Scottish Executive's Strategic Waste Fund for composting and recycling initiatives and proposals for expenditure.
The Committee agreed that the proposals detailed in Appendix I to the report be adopted to further enhance recycling initiatives within Dundee City Council.
VI PURCHASE OF MILK CRYOSCOPE
It was reported that recently introduced European Union legislation stated that the analysis of milk for added water required a Cryoscope that meets new criteria. As the Environmental Consumer and Protection Department's present instrument does not meet this criteria, the Department is required to purchase a new Cryoscope.
The Committee agreed to accept an offer from the sole UK supplier, QuadraChem Laboratories Limited, Forest Row, East Sussex, in the sum of 4,895.
