I DECLARATION OF INTEREST
There were no declarations of interest.
II DUNDEE LAW HERITAGE PROJECT
There was submitted Report No 393-2015 by the Director of Environment updating the Committee on progress with the Dundee Law Heritage Project and seeking authority to progress with Phase 1 of the planned improvement works and actions.
The Committee agreed to:-
(i) approve the proposed Phase 1 improvement works and instruct the Director of Environment to undertake these works;
(ii) note the intention to create a part-time, two year fixed-term post of Community Participation Officer; and
(iii) note that a further report would be brought back to the Phase 2 works and funding.
III PUBLIC OPEN SPACE IMPROVEMENTS PHASE 1 2015/2016
There was submitted Agenda Note AN188-2015 advising the Committee that proposals to undertake Public Open Space Improvements at a number of locations were under development to enhance the amenity while, at the same time, reducing the long-term maintenance costs. The proposed measures would also help reduce Health and Safety concerns and would support the Citys Take a Pride Campaign. Phase 1 of these proposed works would be undertaken at an overall cost of 80,436 and comprise:-
(i) Camperdown Country Park - Installation of bollards to south side of the main drive and controlled access gates to protect the parkland and to assist in the control of unauthorised vehicles.
(ii) Clatto Park - Undertake minor surfacing improvements to access path along the north and eastern edges of the reservoir.
(iii) Dawson Park - Regeneration of planted area adjacent to Arbroath Road entrance to improve safety and reduce future maintenance.
(iv) Dudhope Park - Removal of overgrown planted areas to south of castle and replacement with low maintenance ground cover planting.
(v) Castle Green - General improvement works, including the removal and grassing over of overgrown shrub planting, together with replacement of the existing chespale fence with metal bowtop fencing.
(vi) Dee Gardens - Remove section of wall to provide access for ride-on grass cutting plant thus reducing hand maintenance work.
(vii) Tait's Lane - Removal of overgrown planted areas and replacement with low maintenance ground cover.
(viii) Berwick Drive - Finalise the regeneration of the southern embankment, east of entrance to Braeview Academy by removing tree plantations, reshaping and establishing new grass areas.
(ix) Orchar Park - Removal of hedge along northern side of park to reduce future maintenance burden.
The Executive Director of Corporate Services advised that the above costs of 80,436 could be met from allowances within the Capital Plan 2015/2016 Environmental Improvements for Parks and Open Spaces.
The Committee agreed that the above proposals be approved and that the Director of Environment be authorised to undertake these works.
Craig MELVILLE, Convener.
