The minute of meeting of this Committee of 19th April, 2004 was held as read.

I GENERATOR

 

The Director of Leisure and Arts submitted Report No 352-2004 requesting grant funding to Generator.

 

The Committee approved a grant of 7,000.

 

II RERES HILL MANAGEMENT PLAN AND COMMUNITY VIEWPOINT

 

The Director of Leisure and Arts submitted Report No 353-2004 seeking approval for the department to work in partnership with the Broughty Ferry Environmental Project in the preparation and implementation of a Community Strategy for Reres Hill.

 

The Committee agreed that the Broughty Ferry Environmental Project in conjunction with the Leisure and Arts Department and the general community participate in formulating and implementing a Community Strategy for Reres Hill.

 

III BAXTER PARK RESTORATION PLAN - TENDER FOR PHASE 3 ARBORICULTURAL WORKS

 

The Director of Leisure and Arts submitted Report No 357-2004 detailing offers to undertake the Phase 3 Arboricultural Works in Baxter Park as part of the park's restoration plan.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Cut Above Specialist Tree Services amounting to 15,470 to which required to be added a 5% contingency sum of 773 making a total cost of 16,243.

 

IV DUNDEE JAZZ FESTIVAL/ASSEMBLY DIRECT

 

The Director of Leisure and Arts submitted Report No 358-2004 requesting grant funding to Assembly Direct for the Dundee Jazz Festival.

 

The Committee approved a grant of 4,000 to Assembly Direct.

V EXHIBITION AT CAMPERDOWN HOUSE

 

The Director of Leisure and Arts submitted Report No 363-2004 informing the Committee of the forthcoming exhibition "Hero of Camperdown:  Admiral Adam Duncan, 1731 - 1804:  Bicentenary Exhibition".

 

The Committee noted the report.

 

VI TENDERS RECEIVED

 

The City Architectural Services Officer submitted Report No 350-2004 giving details of an offer by Dundee Contract Services under the Schedule of Rates to carry out replacement of a pump unit at the Mills Observatory for the sum of 6,000 to which required to be added an allowance of 1,066 for professional services, making a total expenditure of 7,066.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer.

 

VII LOCHEE SWIMMING AND LEISURE CENTRE - CLOSURE FOR MAINTENANCE

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN205-2004 requesting permission to close the above centre from Tuesday, 17th August to Sunday, 29th August, 2004 inclusive to enable the annual equipment and essential maintenance programme to take place.

 

The Committee approved the closure dates.

 

VIII CAMPERDOWN HOUSE - EXTERIOR ENHANCEMENT WORK

 

There was submitted Agenda Note AN206-2004 advising that offers had been received from Simpson & Brown, Architects, Mackays of Perth (their designated specialist painterwork contractor) and Balmoral Pest Control in respect of exterior enhancement works at Camperdown House.

 

The Committee agreed to accept the offer from Mackays of Perth in consultation with Simpson & Brown amounting to 9,750 to undertake the exterior redecoration of windows, doors and framing on the north, east and west elevations of the house and the offer of 821 from Balmoral Pest Control for the third and final phase of pigeon deterent measures under the main entrance portico.  The Committee also approved fees of 500 in respect of work by Simpson & Brown.
