The minute of meeting of this Committee of 11th February, 2002 was held as read.

I E-MERGENCE

 

The Convener declared an interest in this item and vacated the Chair which was taken by Councillor Glen for the remainder of the meeting. Councillor Grant also declared an interest in this item and took no part in discussion of the item.

 

The Director of Economic Development reported that his Department had been approached by the University of Abertay and The BusinessLab Group Ltd to support the development of a new games-based learning research project/facility in Dundee.

 

The Committee agreed to make available a contribution of 15,000 towards the costs and noted that Scottish Enterprise Tayside had been approached to provide a similar amount.

 

II TENDERS RECEIVED

 

(a)The City Architectural Services Officer submitted Report No 199-2002 giving details of offers received for the undernoted contracts.

 

(i) SHOPPING PARADE - 54-60A CRAIGMOUNT ROAD - EXTERNAL LIGHTING

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Dundee Contract Services to carry out the above works for the sum of 1,366 to which required to be added an allowance of 230 for professional services making a total expenditure of 1,596.

 

(ii) SHOPPING PARADE - 2-14 BROWNHILL ROAD - EXTERNAL LIGHTING

 

The Committee agreed to accept the lowest offer by Dundee Contract Services to carry out the above works for the sum of 3,122.73 to which required to be added allowances of 375 for electric connection charges and 590 for professional services making a total expenditure of 4,087.73.

 

(b)The City Engineer submitted Report No 196-2002 giving details of offers received for a new hay shed at 24 Barns of Claverhouse.

 

The Committee agreed to accept a negotiated offer on a partnering basis from Jackson Steel Structures Ltd to carry out the above works for the sum of 47,850 to which required to be added allowances of 2,400 for contingencies and 6,000 for professional fees including planning supervisor making a total expenditure of 56,250.

 

The Committee also noted that Jackson Steel Structures Ltd had listed Muirfield (Contracts) Ltd as the sub-contractor.

 

The Committee resolved under Section 50(A)(4) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 that the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the undernoted items of business on the grounds that they involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraphs 6 and 9 of Part I of Schedule 7(A) of the Act.

There was submitted and approved Report No 177-2002 by the Director of Economic Development detailing commercial leases in respect of the undernoted premises:-
