I MINUTES OF MEETINGS OF SCHOOL ATTENDANCE SUB-COMMITTEE OF 18TH AND 19TH DECEMBER, 2001

 

The minutes of the above meetings (Appendices I and II) were submitted for information.

 

II TENDERS RECEIVED

 

There was submitted Report No 31-2002 by the City Architectural Services Officer detailing tenders received and requesting a decision on acceptance thereof.

 

(i) GOWRIEHILL PRIMARY SCHOOL - HARDSTANDING REPAIRS AND ALTERATIONS TO MAIN ENTRANCE

 

The Committee agreed acceptance of the Schedule of Rates Offer from Dundee Contract Services, for hardstanding repairs and alterations to the main entrance at Gowriehill Primary School for the sum of 5,565.00, together with allowances of 835.00, giving a total of 6,400.00.

 

(ii) MORGAN ACADEMY, LAWTON ROAD - KITCHEN HUT DEMOLITION

 

The Committee agreed acceptance of a negotiated offer from Dundee Contract Services for the demolition of the kitchen hut at Morgan Academy, Lawton Road for the sum of 8,203.50, together with allowances of 1,530.00, giving a total of 9,733.50.

 

III PROPOSAL BY ANGUS COUNCIL TO AMEND THE CATCHMENT AREA OF MONIFIETH HIGH SCHOOL - RESPONSE TO CONSULTATION

 

There was submitted Report No 64-2002 by the Director of Education bringing to the attention of the Committee a proposal by Angus Council to amend the catchment area of Monifieth High School and proposing a response to Angus Council.

 

The Committee agreed that the Director of Education respond to the Director of Education of Angus Council in the terms set out in Paragraph 7.2 of the report.

 

IV BUDGET 2001 - ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL RESOURCES FOR SCHOOLS

 

There was submitted Report No 61-2002 by the Director of Education advising the Committee on the guidance given to schools following approval of Report No.669-2001 by the Education Committee at its meeting on 15th October, 2001.

 

The Committee agreed to:-

 

(i) note the contents of the report; and

 

(ii)that in future reports in respect of any additional funds allocated from the Scottish Executive the recommendations section of the report will be more specific on the use of the funds.

 

V PROVISION OF PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION SERVICES FOR CHILDREN DEFERRING ENTRY TO PRIMARY ONE

 

There was submitted Report No 67-2002 by the Director of Education setting out proposals for managing provision of pre-school education services for children seeking deferred entry to Primary One and seeking approval to make changes to the Nursery Admissions Policy to take account of children deferring entry to Primary One.

 

The Committee agreed to note the contents of the Report and approved:-

 

(i)proposals to support consistent and effective decision making about additional pre-school services for children deferring entry to Primary One;

 

(ii)the outlined arrangements for the management of requests for deferrals; and

 

(iii)the changes to the Nursery Admissions Policy to take account of the management of requests for deferrals.
