The City Plan for Dundee sets out the vision for the city’s future, and builds on the work that has already been undertaken through the collective efforts of our communities, private, public and third sector partners.
Dundee has held true to a longstanding vision for the city, framed around jobs, social inclusion and quality of life, and has a strategic priority to Build Stronger Communities through improving housing quality, choice and affordability.
Dundee City Council - Construction Services plays a vital role in achieving these objectives. More than 300 staff are permanently employed and cover various disciplines. Opportunities exist for young people wishing to start and develop careers in construction and are provided through Modern Apprenticeships and additionally for all employees through internal and/or external training.
Construction Services carry out repairs, maintenance and refurbishments of housing accommodation and also other Council public buildings such as schools, offices, community and leisure buildings. More than 50,000 housing repairs are completed every year, and emergency cover is provided 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The service also carries out the refurbishment of void properties for re-let, ensuring that people move in to a home, with a high quality of repair and decoration in line with the agreed standards from our Partnership with Housing. In addition, Construction Services also provides for the safety of tenants through lifts maintenance, electrical and gas safety checks and the installation and maintenance of heat and smoke detector systems, all delivered by a highly skilled and fully qualified construction team. Major projects are also successfully delivered and include windows replacement programmes, boiler replacement programmes, roof replacements and major/minor school alterations.
