Waste Management Arrangements for New Residential Developments

Developers and landlords are required to buy all bins for new domestic properties, and to ensure these are made available to householders by the start of their residency. The size, type, and number of bins required depends on the property type, number of residents, and layout of the individual development.

New residents will not be able to order bins until the developer has gone through a waste management consultation process and a consensus has been reached on the refuse and recycling collection strategy.

Further information for developers and landlords is available on request from the Business Process Team, Neighbourhood Services.

Please email wastecollections@dundeecity.gov.uk with your initial enquiry.

Houses

Individual houses will receive three 240 litre wheeled bins as standard:

  1. Grey – non-recyclable (general) waste.
  2. Blue - paper & cardboard
  3. Burgundy – metals, plastics and cartons

Internal and external food waste containers will also be provided.

Garden waste is collected using a 240 litre wheeled brown bin. This service is chargeable and is managed through an annual permit system. Residents are responsible for purchasing a permit in advance of using this service.

Flats

Flats are typically served by communal/shared bins, with the number, type, and size based on the number of flats, residents, and the layout of the development.

Bin Delivery Lead Times

Lead times for new bin orders are generally 8-12 weeks, so early notification is requested.
