£1 Swim Offer Proving To Be A Success

More than 5,000 visits were made by children and young people to Dundee's swimming pools during the first two weeks of the school summer holidays through the popular £1 swim offer.

The initiative has also contributed to an increase in overall attendance at swimming pools across the city, with more than 20,000 visits recorded over the same period. This includes those taking advantage of the £1 swim offer and highlights the positive impact the scheme is having in encouraging more people and families to get active during the school holidays.

The Make a Splash This Summer initiative forms part of the wider 2026 Summer of Sport programme, backed by Scottish Government investment and delivered locally by Dundee City Council and Leisure & Culture Dundee through Active Dundee, Active Schools and partners.

Children and Families Convener Stewart Hunter said: "It's great to see the £1 swim offer proving popular, with thousands of children and young people taking the opportunity to stay active and enjoy our swimming pools during the holidays.

"We are committed to supporting families through the cost-of-living crisis, and low-cost, accessible initiatives like this play an important role in helping young people stay active, have fun and enjoy their school holiday."

Scott Urquhart, Head of Leisure, Sport and Physical Activity Services, said: "It's fantastic to see more than 5,000 visits by children and young people through the £1 swim offer in just the first two weeks of the summer holidays.

"The increase to over 20,000 visits across our swimming pools shows the positive impact that affordable opportunities can have in helping more people and families stay active. We're delighted to be supporting children and families to enjoy healthy, active and affordable experiences over the summer."

Eligibility criteria

Children and young people must:

• Be resident in Dundee
• Be aged 0 to 17, including pre-school and school-aged children

They must also provide one of the following:

• Summer of Sport pass
• Young Scot card linked to a Dundee address
• Active Dundee membership card linked to a Dundee address

Children under five are also eligible.

The Summer of Sport programme helps young people try new activities close to home, build healthy habits and develop a lifelong connection to sport and physical activity.

The initiative is also designed to harness the excitement of major sporting events, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, inspiring young people across Scotland to get active.
