Local Housing Strategy

Housing

Public consultation on a new housing strategy for the city has shown strong support for the direction being set.

More than 80 people took part in the consultation helping to shape a strategy that sets out a clear, positive vision for the future of housing in Dundee and how it can support stronger communities, better health and improved quality of life for residents.

Councillors will now be asked to approve the strategy which builds on progress made in recent years and sets out a coordinated long term approach to addressing housing need, improving housing quality and supporting sustainable neighbourhoods.

Kevin Cordell, convener of the neighbourhood housing and communities committee, said: "Good quality secure and affordable housing is fundamental to peoples wellbeing and to the future of our city. This strategy sets a clear direction for how housing can play a central role in tackling inequality supporting health and wellbeing and creating better places to live.

"By working closely with our partners communities and stakeholders we are setting out a positive and ambitious plan that responds to current challenges while looking ahead to the needs of future generations.

"The Local Housing Strategy matters to everyone who lives in Dundee It is forward looking and ambitious but also firmly rooted in the everyday experiences of residents and the realities facing our communities."

The strategy is built around six key priorities that together aim to deliver real lasting improvements for people across the city:

  • adequate supply of housing;
  • placemaking and communities;
  • homelessness;
  • promote independent living and health through housing and communities;
  • housing quality and energy efficiency; and
  • private rented sector.

It will be discussed by the neighbourhood housing and communities committee on Monday March 2.
