Linlathen Energy Efficiency Measures

ALMOST £10m of work to tackle fuel poverty in council houses in the Linlathen area of Dundee is set to get underway early next year.
More than 120 properties will see work including new external wall insulation and associated works, replacement windows and doors, roof insulation and flat roof replacement.
Other works include floor insulation, ventilation works, roof tile replacement works and photo voltaic panel installation with battery storage to help increase energy efficiency and improve living conditions.
Kevin Cordell convener of the neighbourhood, housing and communities committee said: “Many of the properties in the area, which were built in the 1930s, have got problems caused by poor insulation and inefficient heating systems which add to increased levels of fuel poverty.
“People in the area have told us that, while they like living in Linlathen, they want their houses improved, and that is exactly what this work will do.”
Depute committee convener Lynne Short added: “National estimates suggest that more than a quarter of all households in deprived areas of Dundee experience fuel poverty, which has a direct effect on people’s health and wellbeing, especially during the colder months we’re coming into now.
“Looking at the housing list shows that Linlathen is somewhere people want to live, so it is important that we maintain and invest in the existing housing stock to make sure it remains safe, energy-efficient, and suitable for current and future residents.”
The work, which will cost £9,952,523 in total, will be carried out on 121 houses by AC Whyte and is expected to be completed by next summer. Among the five specialist sub-contractors is local firm IAS Scaffolding, with a process to identify others underway.
