Adult Learners Week

A SPECIAL programme of events is set to take place across Dundee to mark Adult Learning Week.

This year marks 50 years of the Alexander Report, which brought youth work and adult education together under a single concept of community education, later community learning and development.

Lynne Short, depute convener of Dundee City Council’s neighbourhood, housing and communities committee said: “Adult Learners’ Week is a great opportunity to showcase what is on offer, to connect with people across Dundee and inspire them to take up learning for education and skills.

"The council works with partners across the city to promote Adult Learning by offering opportunities to learn and take action on issues important to them, including learning about health and wellbeing, literacy and numeracy and steps to employment."

As part of Adult Learning Week local groups have been encouraged to host taster sessions or information events, more information on which can be found on a new online community-based Adult Learning database.

A citywide Adult Learning Celebration will kick off the week on Wednesday (November 26) at Drumgeith Community Campus, celebrating adults who have taken part in community-based adult learning over the last 12 months.

More than 20 community groups from across the city will be represented at the celebration which will be hosted by Depute Lord Provost Nadia El-Nakla.
