Take Pride in Your City Growing Success

Councillors are set to be updated on the recent highlights of the Take Pride in Your City campaign, which continues to have a positive impact across the city.
The Take Pride initiative exists to encourage collaborative efforts across the city in preventing and tackling litter, dog fouling, chewing gum litter, fly-tipping and graffiti amongst Dundee’s neighbourhoods.
An update report going before the Climate, Net Zero and Environmental Committee identifies areas of progress that have been reported over the past year.
These include:
An ongoing programme of Community Clean Up events in wards across the city.
Since December 2024, a total of 61 litter picks has been registered with the Council and Keep Scotland Beautiful, these involved an estimated 1,389 participants.
Attendance at freshers' events on Abertay and Dundee Universities to discuss recycling systems in Dundee with students.
Ongoing annual capital investment of £150,000 for the procurement of new or replacement containers and skips dedicated to recycling initiatives and improving resident participation in household recycling.
Continued liaison with partner agencies in relation to rough sleeping, begging, and drug use, providing appropriate support to reduce the number of incidents through the provision of care and assistance to vulnerable and at-risk individuals.
Ongoing development of the Mobile Waste App to push messages, hints and tips to registered users as well as providing up to date collection information and details to help householders identify what goes in each bin. The app can also set reminders for collections and signposting users to information and advice in relation to recycling and re-use.
Climate, Net Zero and Environment Convener Heather Anderson said: "A lot of important work with volunteers and partner agencies has gone into making the city a better place. I want to thank everyone involved and encourage everyone to play their part, whether that’s by joining one of our community litter picks or recycling more, every action makes a positive difference across Dundee’s neighbourhoods.”
"I know the city centre is an important asset to Dundee, and we are working hard with Police Scotland and city centre businesses to tackle anti-social behaviour and support City Centre Community Clean-Ups.
"It’s great that our public spaces continue to be recognised for their quality. Scotland’s Beach Award has been retained for Broughty Ferry beach in 2025, where the Bathing Water Quality classification remained as Excellent. In addition, seven greenspaces have retained their Green Flag Awards for 2025.
"Finally, one of our main priorities as a council is tackling climate change and achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2045. That’s why I’m particularly pleased to see that landfill rates remain at an all-time low, with less than 1% of all residual waste going to landfill, with the remainder is used to generate energy through our energy from waste facility."
The Climate, Net Zero and Environment Committee will meet on Monday 17th November.
