Dundee Recovery Month

People in Dundee are being encouraged to attend a series of events throughout September for Recovery Month.
Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action (DVVA) has pulled together a programme of events with the support of recovery organisations within the city, which can be found on the Dundee Alcohol and Drug Partnership’s (ADP) website here.
Every year Recovery Month provides the opportunity for our communities to come together to foster hope and kindness, build connections and celebrate people’s recovery journeys. It is also a time to continue challenging stigma and raise awareness of what support is available for people in Dundee.
Dundee City Council spokesperson on alcohol and drugs Councillor Nadia El-Nakla said, "I am very impressed with the number and variety of events available in Dundee as part of recovery month. Being in recovery is not static it is an ongoing journey for people and their families. Recovery can be difficult and incredibly lonely at times Therefore, having being part of a recovery community is vital.
"Local communities have been provided funding from the ADP to carry out important anti-stigma campaigns working with those in recovery, including the Planet Youth project focusing on prevention work with young people from P7 throughout secondary school.
"We are also working with Reach Advocacy, a national organisation to roll-out training across services on the Human Rights Approach to recovery.
"Over the past two years the Dundee Recovery Network has grown, providing more activities and support.
"These examples shine a light on the efforts and positive work being done across the city. Those working within recovery services and those on their recovery journeys deserve all our support."
Throughout September various recovery groups and services in Dundee are hosting a wide range of events which will provide advice support and an opportunity to connect with others.
These events include a celebration of nature and recovery, a family gala day with Street Soccer as well as people sharing their recovery journeys and stories with the aim to bring together as many people as possible to learn, celebrate and to continue building our positive community.
Councillor Nadia El-Nakla added, "I want to thank all the organisations and services involved for the wonderful work they have carried out in relation to recovery within Dundee and for Recovery Month.
"If you're interested in seeing what is taking place throughout the month, I encourage you to look at programme of events that DVVA have developed with the invaluable contribution of recovery services and organisations."
