Efforts to support and empower citizens across Dundee have been published.

The 2024–2025 Communities Service Annual Report highlights the wide range of work to support disadvantaged and vulnerable groups and individuals of all ages.

This support is delivered through youth work, adult learning, community empowerment, and community health initiatives.

These activities aim to bring about positive change in the lives of individuals and communities, reducing poverty-related socio-economic, educational, and health inequalities. Services are delivered in community centres and other venues across the city.

Key achievements in the past year include:

  • 428,768 attendances at local community centres

  • 169 people received one to one support to reduce risk and promote positive outcomes

  • 38,588 attendances by young people at Diversionary Learning Programmes

  • 5,369 Dundee citizens engaged in Community Learning and Development activity

  • 750 Adults received one to one support to reduce risk and promote positive outcomes

Work has focused on targeting support for at-risk individuals, improving opportunities, and ensuring children and young people receive the right help at the right time.

A number of initiatives highlight the breadth of work undertaken to support communities in Dundee, including tailored support for residents with low levels of literacy, numeracy, and digital skills, activity to promote health and wellbeing such as family cooking sessions, walking groups and recovery activities and support to local organisations to deliver opportunities to Dundee’s communities.

Children, Families and Communities Convener Stewart Hunter said: "This report highlights the vital work the Communities Team has delivered over the past year.

"There are a number of excellent programmes showcased that demonstrate the wide range of support provided, from the ‘Imagine A Man’ initiative, which promotes male positivity through positive role models, to one-to-one support that helps improve mental health and employment opportunities for people across the city

"The number of residents who have engaged with their local community over the past year is incredible and shows just how valued the team’s work is. The team work tirelessly to provide the best for Dundee’s communities and to empower people to have an active voice in improving the lives of their fellow citizens.

"I want to thank the team for their remarkable efforts and dedication to communities across the city. It is clear the huge difference they make every day."
