Opening of Revamped City Park

The newly revamped Longhaugh Play Park has officially reopened, offering children and families a vibrant and inclusive space to play and explore.
Councillors committed to working with communities across the city to deliver £500,000 worth of improvements to play areas to encourage local families to get out and get active in the early summer.
Of this, £145,000 has been spent on new play equipment, new seating, safety resurfacing and tree planting to enrich the environment.
The improved play area, designed in collaboration with the council’s environment and open space teams, now features a fantasy village, with central towers and a Witches’ Hut designed to capture the imagination and provide a space for children to explore, create, and problem-solve through imaginative play.
A key focus of the project has been on accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring the play area meets the wide and varied needs of all children.
Fair work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure Convener Steven Rome said: “It’s great that Longhaugh Play Park has officially reopened. This is part of our wider investment across the city to create more inclusive and modern play areas for children to enjoy.
“Plans for this have been shaped by neighbourhood feedback and play surveys, and it's fantastic to deliver something the community wants and that creates countless opportunities for fun, learning, and social interaction.”
Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Convener Heather Anderson said: “This upgrade provides a welcoming space where children of all abilities can get outdoors, be more active, and enjoy the mental and physical benefits that come with play.
“I’m especially pleased that the new equipment is made from sustainable materials, including FSC-certified robinia timber, which ensures durability and reduces the need for frequent replacements.”
