Community Film Festival

Communities across Dundee have come together to celebrate work supporting learning, empowering communities, attainment for young people and breaking down stigma through adult learning, youth work, community development and community health.
A series of videos were created in partnership with Underground Cinema Club, featuring individuals who use Community Learning and Development services as they discuss the positive impact it has on their lives.
Being able to read, write and develop numeracy skills is essential, as it removes barriers to everyday live. In the videos, adults who use the adult literacy services share how learning these skills boosted their confidence and helped them manage various aspects of their lives, including understanding and paying bills.
The videos also focus on youth work and the importance of working with young people in the city by helping them gain valuable experience to get jobs, giving them support if they isolated, and learning life skills.
A screening was held to premier the films, which were created in collaboration with young people, adult learners, community members, and council Community, Learning and Development staff.
The films focused on five key areas of work:
Film 1: Adult Literacies in Dundee
Targeted specialist support for adults with low levels of literacy, numeracy and digital skills is helping them to build their skills and knowledge and changing lives for the better.
Film 2: Community Health Advisory Forum
Ensuring that the voices of local people are heard at a strategic level, the Community Health Advisory Forum represents Dundee’s communities leading to improved health and wellbeing outcomes.

Convener of Children, Families and Communities Convener Stewart Hunter said: “These videos are a fantastic example of the great work that goes on in the city to support some of the most vulnerable people in the city and help to remove barriers they face.
“We know how important it is to for people to be able to read, write and develop numeracy skills, and these videos really show the meaningful impact of the adult learning service have on people's lives.
“Empowering people to influence their priorities in the city is vital, as it gives marginalised people a voice in the shaping the services they need and want to see for their community.
“I encourage everyone to watch these videos to get an understanding of the services we offer, the benefits of engaging with them, and to please reach out if they need any support.
“The evidence of the impact of the services our Community, Learning and Deveopment Services offer is so clear in these videos. I want to thank everyone involved in running these services for what they do and for everyone involved in producing the videos.”
