Parking Meters Upgrade Proposal

Parking meters across Dundee could be in line for an upgrade if councillors approve a 5-year contract worth £410,000.
Dundee City Council own and operate 95 on-street parking meters and 30 parking meters in off-street car parks which will be upgraded under the proposed contract with new hardware and software to modernize the equipment and improve reliability.
The contract also includes scheduled and unscheduled maintenance provision to ensure parking meters are maintained in a serviceable condition.
In a previous report, councillors heard that only half of the current meters have cash and bank card payment options, while the remainder offer coin payment only. The contract, if approved, will upgrade all meters to provide both coin and card payment options.
The Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure Committee is being asked to approve a tender from IPS Group Limited for five years, worth a total of £410,900.
Depute Convener Cllr Siobhan Tolland said: “We are keen to improve our parking meters to provide greater payment choice for motorists between cash and card across the city.
“We are keen to make sure that people who want to use cash are not excluded from use of the meters by an upgrade. Parking meters are also complemented by pay by phone and app options at all locations.
“Maintenance of the machines on a scheduled and unscheduled basis is very important as well to keep them working efficiently.”
The committee meets on Monday January 6, 2025.
