Local Environmental Groups recognised
09/12/24Local groups were recognised by Keep Scotland Beautiful for their positive contributions to their community at a Dundee celebration event which took place on Friday (6th December).
This included thirteen Dundee groups which were recognised for their work to improve their communities for climate, nature and people as part of this year’s It’s Your Neighbourhood initiative. As part of the awards, Bonnie Dundee also came third in the NatureScot It’s Your Neighbourhood Pollinator Friendly Award for their positive work.
Back in September at the Beautiful Scotland Awards, which are also run by Keep Scotland Beautiful, both Bonnie Dundee and Ardler Environment Group received Certificates of Recognition. This was closely followed by the Britain in Bloom UK Finals where Bonnie Dundee were awarded a Silver Gilt medal for their citywide entry, and Ninewells Community Garden picked up the new RHS Gardening for Health & Wellbeing Award.
Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Convener Cllr Heather Anderson said of the news: “Dundee’s community growing and environmental groups, along with partner organisations including the Council, work exceptionally hard throughout the year to improve the city’s environment and provide opportunities for others to get involved.
“Their projects are helping to make a real difference, whether focused on enhancing and cleaning up our open spaces, making Dundee more sustainable and increasing biodiversity, or improving people’s health and wellbeing.
“Collectively, this network of groups and organisations are not only making a huge difference within local communities but also to our city as a whole. I am delighted that all this hard work has been recognised by Keep Scotland Beautiful through the It’s Your Neighbourhood and Beautiful Scotland initiatives. The variety of projects being showcased today and the good that they are achieving is really inspiring and I congratulate everyone involved on their achievements.”
Juliette Camburn, Senior Officer for Community Initiatives at Keep Scotland Beautiful said: “We were delighted to host a regional networking and celebration event in partnership with Dundee City Council. Groups from our Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network came together to share stories and inspire each other. We were able to welcome our Nature Champion for community green space, Joe Fitzpatrick MSP, who witnessed first-hand why the Network is so valued by those we support and recognise, as they take positive action in communities across Scotland to protect and enhance our natural and built heritage.”
