Hello and welcome to my End of Month Blog #26 as the Lord Provost of Dundee.

Activities over July included:

  • On Tuesday 2nd, the Lady Provost and I attended the 2024 Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. It was good to meet and speak with two of my Lord Provost colleagues, Aberdeen Lord Provost David Cameron and Edinburgh Lord Provost Robert Aldridge as well as many excellent opportunities to promote Dundee to new people;
  • I met up with twenty others in Broughty Ferry to take part in the Fascinating Ferry Walk – one of a number of walking tours under the title of Beachie Heritage Walks and guided by Charlie Webster on Wednesday 3rd;
  • On the morning of Saturday 6th, I attended the Dundee Food Festival in the city centre. I was delighted to accept the invitation to attend and congratulated everyone involved in putting on such a great event across the weekend;
  • I had a meeting at V&A Dundee with Philanthropy and Partnerships Director Barry Ferguson on the morning of Tuesday 9th. It was an excellent meeting lasting over an hour and I look forward to working with V&A Dundee again in the near future;
  • On Friday 12th, I attended the morning and afternoon ceremonies in the Caird Hall for the Abertay University Summer 2024 Graduations. I also attended the Abertay University Summer Graduation Lunch which took place following the morning ceremony. The Graduation ceremonies are wonderful occasions and I wished each Abertay University Graduate every success going forward;
  • The Lady Provost and I accepted an invitation to attend a preview of the new M&S Dundee store at the Gallagher Retail Park on the evening of Monday 15th. I thanked store manager Mary Power and a number of the team for the tour;
  • On Saturday 20th July, the Lady Provost and I attended two events to mark the Airborne Forces Day Scotland 2024. In the morning, I stood alongside General Andrew Harrison on a dais at Riverside Drive for a march and salute from those currently serving, veterans and cadets in our Airborne Forces. I then officially opened the event before later, in the evening, the Lady Provost and I attended the Airborne Forces Day Dinner at the Apex Hotel delivering my second speech of the day and gifting a plaque of the Dundee Coat of Arms to the Airborne Forces on behalf of the city;
  • My thanks to Deputy Lieutenant (DL) Jill Shimi for undertaking the presentations of Lord Lieutenant Awards in the Twinning Room on Tuesday 30th. Jill also undertook the Citizenship Ceremonies as DL the following day.

For updates as they occur, you can find the latest Lord Provost news and activities on both Facebook and Twitter/X.
