Pupils Spread Clean Air Day Message

Dundee school pupils are being encouraged to spread the word about this year’s Clean Air Day, which is on Thursday June 20.
As part of work to support the campaign in city primaries, a competition is underway for classes to design a banner to get the message across to the public.
It comes as city councillors call for work to continue to further improve air quality in the city. Activity includes the increased use of Electric Vehicles in the council’s fleet and the installation of cycle storage to help pupils make active travel choices.
Dundee City Council recently released a report which confirms that air quality in the city has met all the targets set in the ten locations where it is continuously monitored.
Depute Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure Convener Councillor Siobhan Tolland said: “With the recent introduction of Dundee’s Low Emission Zone, the associated subjects of pollution and health are high on the agenda.
"The council is taking action in a number of different ways to improve air quality for the future, which is vital for the pupils of today as they grow up."
Children, Families and Communities convener Councillor Stewart Hunter said: “We are encouraging pupils to make healthy and active travel choices by providing facilities to make it easier to cycle or wheel to school, and we are also seeing the benefits of walking buses.
"I am pleased that Clean Air Day will inspire our pupils to get the message across to the wider public."
