Charging Ahead with EV National Recognition

Dundee City Council is charging ahead with more national recognition for its pioneering approach to electric vehicles (EV).

The council was named Public Transport Authority of the Year at the recent Electric Vehicle Innovation and Excellence Awards.

The title recognises managing EV uptake and adoption, engagements with consumers and the EV industry, and the investments the council has made into EV infrastructure.

Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure convener Councillor Steven Rome marked the award by seeing how the council continues to take forward growth of its EV charging network.

Electric minibuses are now being used for pupil transport at Kingspark School, and the council has invested in two chargers at the school so that the minibuses can be charged overnight ready for service in the morning.

The chargers have been installed by Swarco.

Councillor Rome said: “It is fantastic to see that Dundee City Council’s efforts to invest in EVs and our charging network have yet again been recognised with a prestigious national award.

“The use of electric minibuses for the transport of Kingspark pupils and the installation of these new chargers shows how we are continuing to move forward to future proof the city.

“The council has a direct responsibility to tackle Climate Change, cut carbon emissions and improve air quality.

“The growth of EVs across our fleet is a sign of how seriously we take our responsibilities.”
