Dundee City Council is once again celebrating Living Wage Week.

Living Wage Week is a campaign dedicated to celebrating the Living Wage movement and looks to encourage businesses to become accredited Living Wage employers.

Recently
it was announced that there will be a 10.1% rise in the real Living Wage making the new rate £12, a £1.10 increase.

There are now over 130 Living Wage accredited employers headquartered in Dundee collectively employing over 42,000 thousand workers. Over 2,000 workers have been uplifted to the real Living Wage and Dundee is on track to see a record number of new sign ups this financial year.

You can see a video highlighting the progress of the Making Dundee a Living Wage City campaign on
our Youtube channel.

During the week there will be various events including a Living Hours Seminar, Fairness Leadership Panel and a 'Get Framed for Living Wage Week!' event at McManus Galleries encouraging Living Wage accredited employers in the city to get together and share a selfie in support of the Making Dundee a Living Wage City campaign.

The Living Wage Awards 2023 take place on Thursday 9 November and this year will be hosted in the city at V&A Dundee. The awards celebrate individuals and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to the Living Wage movement.

There are 7 award categories with Hotel Indigo & Staybridge Suites Dundee up for the ‘Newcomer Award’ and Dundee University Students’ Association up for the ‘Local Champion Award’.

Councillor Steven Rome, Convener of Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure said: “It is great to see that the council is again supporting Living Wage Week and pleasing to see the increase in the Living Wage which will have a huge impact for workers in Dundee.

“I am looking forward to the activities planned and attending the Living Wage Awards which I am delighted are being hosted in Dundee at the world-class V&A museum.”

Cllr Rome added: “With the rise in the cost of living it is a challenging time for many people in our city so it is vital that we support our local employers in the journey to becoming Living Wage accredited.

“I would encourage any business out there thinking of becoming accredited to get in touch with Living Wage Scotland on their website. I am incredibly proud of the work that the Living Wage Action Group do and they are always ready to help and support you to become a Living Wage accredited employer.”

Christine McCaig, Projects Coordinator, Living Wage Scotland said:
“We are delighted by the continued progress toward ‘Making Dundee a Living Wage City’. Despite the challenges currently faced by business, employers in Dundee have signalled their commitment to tackling in-work poverty and demonstrating leadership and resilience.

“There are now over 3400 Living Wage accredited employers in Scotland, more than 130 of which are based in Dundee. What better way to celebrate our growing Living Wage network this Living Wage Week than by bringing our awards ceremony to Dundee, the birthplace of the Making Living Wage Places programme.”
