Union Street decorations

THE SUCCESSFUL transformation of a city centre street is continuing with the installation of new high-level decorations.
Strung between buildings above Union Street the new street dressing tops off pedestrianisation, street markings, the installation of planters and the inclusion of tables and chairs from local eateries.
Steven Rome convener of Dundee City Council’s fair work, economic growth and infrastructure committee said: “The high-level decorations are part of a well-planned and collaborative process that has been welcomed across the board.
“As part of the consultation process surrounding the implementation of the City Centre Strategic Investment Plan we heard time and again the desire for a vibrant city centre with unique destinations.
“Union Street is fast becoming that as its mix of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes offers opportunities for everyone to experience this part of the city centre in a different way.”
A traffic ban was brought in the street, one of the main links between Dundee city centre and the Waterfront, in summer 2020.
The work at Union Street provides temporary decorations on the wires used for Christmas lights, before more permanent improvements to maximise the benefits of pedestrianisation are completed by a project led by UNESCO Dundee and stakeholders.
