Lord Provost Bill Campbell Blog #7
05/01/23Hello, and welcome to my seventh Blog as the Lord Provost of Dundee.
Activities over the past month included:
- At the start of the month, I reached the six-month mark in my role as the Lord Provost. I have been looking ahead to potential projects for 2023 and Dundee will continue to be front and centre in those plans;
- The Lady Provost and I visited Dundee’s American Twin City Alexandria which we share a history with back to 1993. It was a productive visit which I used to promote Dundee;
- I had a number of meetings on the visit with local officials as well as conversations with Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson and Vice Mayor Amy Jackson to discuss opportunities for collaboration and promotion between the cities;
- The Lady Provost and I joined the start of the iconic 51st Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk Parade on Saturday 3rd. The event helped in promoting both Dundee and the twinning of Dundee and Alexandria;
- I also spoke at a number of events during my time in Alexandria promoting Dundee. I met with many people on the trip and wanted to build on the relationships previously developed in past visits and add my own perspective;
- On Sunday 4th, The Depute Lord Provost welcomed the Scottish Traditional Music Awards 2022 to the city. A pre-award ceremony took place that saw inductees honoured in an awards’ hall of fame;
- On Thurs 8th, I had the honour of officially opening the Coldside Nursery where I joined Depute Children & Families Convener Roisin Smith and Education staff for the ceremony;
- On Fri 9th, I travelled through to Edinburgh to be at the Consular Corps in Scotland End of Year Festive Reception where I was in attendance with United States Consul General Jack Hillmeyer, the Lord Provost of Edinburgh and a number of other Provosts from around Scotland;
- At the City Chambers, I had the pleasure of welcoming Tayside Contracts Managing Director Keith McNamara for their Long Service Recognition Awards 2022 which saw staff members presented with their 25 years of service awards;
- On Wed 14th, I attended the Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce Christmas event at the Wellgate which incorporated the schools’ Christmas Bauble Trail competition, along with Cash for Kids and Radio Tay;
- This month, I also attended an event at the Dundee Sea Cadets Corps (113) Training Ship Duncan where I officially received the role of Honorary President;
- On Saturday 17th, the Lady Provost and I attended the “Ice, Camera, Action” show at the Dundee Ice Arena where we were thoroughly impressed by the colour, costumes, songs and skills on the ice in what was a magnificent performance;
- On Monday 19th, I joined with the Lions Club as part of their work raising funds for worthwhile causes in the city and I drew prize winning ticket stubs from a tombola;
- On Christmas Day, the Lady Provost and I put out a message of best wishes for the festive season;
- On New Year’s Day, the Lady Provost and I wished everyone a Happy New Year and best wishes for 2023.
For updates as they occur, the latest Lord Provost news and activities are available on both Facebook and Twitter.
Thank you for taking the time to read this Post and I hope to update you further on my civic responsibilities in the next blog which will summarise January’s duties.
