The winners have been announced across ten categories in Dundee’s 2022 Garden and Allotment Competition recognising the hard work of local people and groups to enhance their area.

The competition is run by Dundee City Council as part of the ongoing ‘Take Pride in Your City’ campaign, which aims to encourage the public to work together to improve the city’s environmental quality and image as an attractive place to live, work, shop and visit.

The Overall Garden Competition winner was Mr John Stoa, and the Overall Allotment Competition winners were Wellbeing Works Dundee.

Mr Stoa was awarded Overall Garden Competition winner for his front garden, which came first in the ‘Residential Front Garden or Entrance’ category. Mr Stoa’s allotment was of an equally high standard and achieved first place in the Allotment Competition’s ‘Phin Cup’ category.

Wellbeing Works Dundee were awarded Overall Allotment Competition winner for their plot at Kinnaird Allotments which was placed first in the ‘Corporation Trophy’ category.

Neighbourhood Services Convener Heather Anderson said: “The Garden and Allotment Competition is a great way to celebrate all the hard work that individual residents, community organisations, and businesses across Dundee are putting into their growing spaces.

“These gardens and allotments not only benefit those who use them but also enhance local communities by providing colourful displays for those passing by and in many cases fresh produce for others to enjoy.

“The competition judge was impressed by the high standard of entries across the city, I would like to congratulate this year’s category winners and the efforts of everyone who entered this year.

“It’s fantastic to see so many people getting involved and I hope that even more people have been inspired to get gardening.”

Wellbeing Works are a non-profit organisation that promote better wellbeing for those who face mental health challenges; building confidence and skills, connecting with others, and having a positive impact on their community.

The competition is open to all within the city boundary, including schools, businesses, and community gardens, in addition to individual residents.

Photographs of all the category and overall winners are available to view on the Dundee City Council website.
