Businesses across Dundee are continuing to adopt the real Living Wage.

Wallace Veterinary Centres have become the 100th employer in the city to sign up to the initiative.

This major milestone demonstrates a continued ambition to make Dundee the first Living Wage City in the UK.

By signing up as a real Living Wage employer, Wallace Veterinary Centres are committing to paying its staff a fair wage to assist them with an affordable quality of life.

In addition, by joining the initiative it offers staff financial security and showing their work is valued, it also has clear benefits for employers. By paying a Living Wage, employers are able to attract, and retain skilled staff.

Wallace Veterinary Centres are an independent vet, headquartered in Broughty Ferry with branches across Tayside.

This Living Wage announcement means that more than 1600 workers in Dundee are paid the real Living Wage.

Christine McCaig, Living Wage Projects Coordinator, said: "We are delighted to celebrate Wallace Veterinary Centres’ Living Wage commitment. They have joined over 2700 accredited employers in Scotland, which now includes over 100 employers based in Dundee.

“Despite the challenges currently faced by business, employers in Dundee have signalled their commitment to tackling in-work poverty and demonstrating leadership and resilience.

“We hope to see more employers in Dundee become accredited to drive the vision of Making Dundee a Living Wage City, and to tackle in-work poverty."

Graham Duff, Operations Manager at Wallace Veterinary Centres said: “We're excited and honoured to be named the 100th Living Wage employer in Dundee.

“It's important that our whole team know they are valued, and paying them somewhat towards the true cost of living as a minimum, regardless of their age, was really important to us. We’re proud to be a milestone in Dundee's ambition to become a Living Wage city.”

A Spokesperson for Dundee City Council Said: “It’s great that 100 employers in the city have signed up to pay their employees the real Living Wage.

“The Council work closely with a number of businesses in the city to promote the benefits of the Living Wage and to encourage and support businesses to become accredited.

“We know the impact paying a fair wage makes to the people of the city.”

In 2019, Dundee became the first place in the UK to achieve recognition for their ambitious plan to become a Living Wage City, a place-based approach to driving uptake of the real Living Wage by local businesses.
